circa nocturna - about the event Circa Nocturna started off as a concept that was very quickly met with acceptance and great amounts of enthusiasm. As Melbourne has such a large group of gothic/alternative dark themed designers, why isn't there a fashion show that highlights their talents? Sydney had the infamous "Edge City", and various smaller local shows had been run. CN was spawned from this thought... aims Circa Nocturna brings together the most edgy fashion designers from Melbourne's underworld. A stand alone fashion event, our designers will showcase their designs to backing music by Melbourne industrial club DJ's and video images by VJ Mindstsatic. It will be the sinistral event of the Australian fashion calendar. The show is meant to celebrate alternative fashion - left of field designers, subcultural fashion, wearable art and clubwear. The sort of fashion that makes Melbourne a much more exciting and interesting place to live in. It is also intended to act as an antidote to some of the excesses of the rest of fashion in the mainstream world. People can't find the styles and clothes (and sizes!) they were looking for in mainstream retail. Circa Nocturna is fashion by the alternative community for the alternative community. The sort of people that will inspire, buy and wear this fashion will be who you see wearing it on the catwalk. We find that using real people from the respective subcultures gives the catwalk an authenticity not usually realised by contemporary fashion shows. We aim to give a chance to some of Melbourne's most innovative and individualistic designers, not only to promote their designs to the alternative community, but to the mainstream fashion world itself. CN is the Dark child of Australian fashion. the show With orchestrated lighting, video art, VJ Mindstatics and some of Melbourne's best DJ's, CN plans to be more than just a fashion show. An assault on the senses in as many diverse ways as possible. Alternative designers and gothanista's will take over the night to show just what exciting creations they have made over the past year. CN is a truly unique event in so many ways. No professional models are employed - instead each designer will use models from an alternative culture. The CN designers on show are a range of new and exciting artists, as well as more established artisans. The full breadth of dark alternative and clubwear fashion will be on show, everything from wearable art, corsetry, Victorian daywear to industrial clubwear as well as metal couture, jewellery and unique accessories.
